The Weekend That Was

Crazy Weekend for Sports and a quiet weekend for blogging as I became extremely ill after seeing the movie Public Enemies. Seriously Michael Mann has no business directing movies and I will never again pay $10.50 to see one of his films. Anyways on to the sports.

RIP Steve McNair

It seems lately that every day someone famous dies. Last week there was Michael Jackson, Ed McMahon, the Mighty Puty dude, and that blond woman from Charlie's angels, you know the one who is hot, well hot for the 80s.

Now there is another name that can be added as Steve McNair was shot over the weekend. McNair was found shot in the head alongside his 20 year old girlfriend. No word yet on who the suspects are but already there are numerous rumors.

People were paying their respects all weekend and everyone is trying to not focus on the fact he was cheating on his wife with this woman and got killed.

McNair was a solid pro and a good quarterback leading the Titans to the SuperBowl in 2000 and earning co-MVP honors in 2003. He will not, and should not, go to the Hall of Fame but his career will be remembered and celebrated for the contributions he made both on and off the field.

He was a philanthropist of the highest order and spent millions on different charities and social programs in the Nashville area. He is also a hero to many young African Americans who see him as a pioneer of the position of quarterback in the NFL and especially at the college level.

Over the next few days more and more information will be revealed about the case and I feel like it is irrelevant. Yes the man died in a tragic way and people want to know what happened but all that is going to do is tarnish the mans legacy and reputation. I for one will not be discussing it which is a huge blow to the journalism community as I am the #1 read blog in North America...written by someone named James Choleras.

Rocking Roger

On Sunday Roger Federer and Andy Roddick faced off in the Wimbledon Final with Federer coming out ahead 5-7, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (5), 3-6, 16-14. That's right the last set was 30 games which is a Wimbledon record.

The epic match -- the fifth set alone lasted more than 1 1/2 hours -- gave Federer his sixth Wimbledon title. Add that to five from the U.S. Open, three from the Australian Open and one from the French Open, and Federer's Grand Slam total rises to 15, one more than Pete Sampras, who flew in from California on Sunday morning to be on hand.

People are going to try and say that this doesn't count because Nadal wasn't there but those people need to shut up. Federer won the tournament and just because Nadal is a pussy with weak knees doesn't mean the title is tainted.

Woods Wins Again

On Sunday while Roger Federer was making history Tiger Woods was getting his round started as he took the course at the AT&T National, an event he is the host of, and was making some history of his own. Woods won the event giving him his 68th career PGA victory putting him only 5 back of Jack Nicklaus.

The win was more important in terms of its implications for the upcoming British Open. Woods won't play again for 2 weeks until the Open and needed this win to build his confidence after his disappointing final round at the US Open.

In winning Woods had to hold off both Anthony Kim and Hunter Mahan who while they aren't the biggest names in golf are no push overs. Both are young up and comers and many have pegged Kim as the heir to Tiger.

America's Game

Over the weekend I was pretty sick so I spent a lot of time on the couch watching some serious TV. Thank God for the NFL Network and America's Game because if not for that show and that network I may have shot myself from boredom.

If you haven't seen this show yet get on it. They are 1 hour long mini documentaries on each Superbowl championship team from each year. They were running in chronological order and I must have seen at least 12 of them. They do an amazing job of making you care about the teams, honestly I am almost started to like the Steelers, and also are narrated by top actors such as Alec Baldwin, Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, and Lawrence Fishbourne.

So thank you NFL Network for making this series. If only they did this with every other sport as well.
