Novak Djokovic what were you thinking when before Wimbledon started you called out Roger Federer? You have 1 career Major title compared to his 15 not to mention he has won the past 5 Wimbledon's. I won't even mention the last time the two of you met in the finals of a Major, the 2007 US Open, Federer gave you a good old fashioned beat down and took you in straight sets. I also won't mention that it could be argued that Roger Federer is the greatest mens tennis player of all time. So I ask again what were you thinking when you said this,
"New names are coming, fresh talented players who believe more they can win against him and I am one of them. Suddenly he is worried a little bit. Some things are changing. I think he's a little bit shaken with that loss and mentally he has been struggling in the last couple of months."
Calling out the worlds #1 player like that is never a good move. Just because Federer isn't having his greatest year and coming off a beating at the hands of Rafael Nadal is no reason to think that he is all of a sudden a terrible player and that you can try and say he wins due to his name alone and not his skill. Even though he is only 21 Djokovic needs to grow up.
However the poetic justice in this whole scenario is that Roger Federer has played up to his usual standards so far while Mr. Djokovic lost his match yesterday to Marat Safin and can now pack his bags and go home. Safin took him out in straight sets, winning 6-4, 7-6, 6-2 which makes me smile as maybe next time Djokovic will focus more on his game rather than his talk.
